I've been a Govalle Roadrunner since 2018. I taught 4th grade for 4 years, and I'm on year 2 as a special education teacher. Before moving here to Austin, I lived in Brooklyn, New York for almost 2 years, worked as a nanny/dog walker and did lots of exploring in The Big Apple. I started my education career as a 3rd grade teacher in West Texas for 2 years but couldn't pass up the opportunity to live in New York, so I took that break.  Some of my loves include my dog Selmy, my family/friends, dancing, singing and enjoying a cup of coffee on a porch.  This year, I look forward to seeing the gains my students make in their reading and writing.

Mission:

The Special Education team exists to support the Austin ISD mission of ensuring children who receive special education services are provided with access to a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) in order to ensure they receive a quality education that enables them to achieve their potential and participate fully in future social, economic, and educational opportunities.

Guiding Philosophy

Austin ISD is committed to providing quality services for students with disabilities. The term “special education” refers to specially designed instruction to meet the needs of a child with a disability. The Special Education team believes that special education is a service that is individually determined based on identified student needs throughout the school day. The primary instructional goal for all services is that students with disabilities are able to access and progress in the general curriculum through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) built on a standards-based framework and implemented with fidelity each and every day. Parents have the right to understand their child's IEP and advocate on their behalf. See resources below!
