Dear Govalle Families and Community,
As we close another incredible school year at Govalle, our hearts are full of gratitude and pride. This year, we truly lived the message: We came. We conquered. We triumphed.
Together, we faced challenges, celebrated victories, and proved the strength of our Roadrunner community. From standing united during the October consolidation conversations and advocating for our beloved school, to creating unforgettable memories at Winter Fest and Field Day, our families, staff, students, and community showed what it means to be Govalle Strong.
This year also brought many moments of celebration and joy — our Roadie Store continued to motivate and reward students, our Target parties created excitement and encouragement, and our Kalahari attendance initiative helped inspire students to show up every day ready to learn. Because of our collective efforts, our school attendance increased from 91.82% to 92.42%, and our chronic absenteeism rate dropped significantly from 35% to 29% — a huge accomplishment that reflects our commitment to student success.
We are also proud to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our staff and campus. This year, Govalle earned 6 TIA designations — 5 Exemplary and 1 Recognized — highlighting the incredible work and dedication of our teachers. Our school campus was also honored with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Silver LEED Award and recognized as a 4-Star Austin Energy Green Building, reflecting our commitment to creating a sustainable and healthy learning environment for our students.
Govalle was also proudly recognized during the celebration of over $2 million awarded to Austin ISD through Austin Energy’s demand response program and energy efficiency rebates, highlighting our campus’s leadership in sustainability, energy conservation, and environmental responsibility.
As the district’s most energy-efficient school, Govalle continues to lead the way in sustainability and innovation. We are excited that our campus will also receive solar panels in the coming years through a federal grant — an investment in a brighter future for our students and community.
I am especially honored to have been recognized as a finalist for Principal of the Year — a reflection of the incredible students, families, and staff who make Govalle such a special place each and every day. This recognition belongs to our entire school community. Thank you for trusting us with your children, supporting our school, volunteering your time, cheering on our students, and believing in the power of education, connection, and community. Every success we celebrated this year was possible because we worked together, and I am deeply grateful to be part of such an amazing Govalle family.
As you enjoy summer break, here are a few simple ways to help avoid the “summer slump” and keep learning strong:
• Read at least 20 minutes each day
• Practice math through games, cooking, shopping, or everyday activities
• Visit your local library, museum, or park
• Keep a journal or write about summer adventures
• Stay active, stay hydrated, and keep a healthy routine
To our students: keep shining bright, keep learning, and keep believing in yourselves.
To our families: thank you for walking beside us every step of the way.
Have a safe, joyful, and restful summer filled with laughter, memories, and love.
💙 Govalle Strong. Roadrunner Proud. 💙
Govalle Principal, Diana Vallejo
